THE BRAID'S TALE

Valentino Spring/Summer 2012

BRAID Worn by Annie of Green Gables, Pippi Longstocking but also young aristocrats of Jane Austen or the Bronte sisters' novels (well, in the movies...) and romantic literature heroines such as Isolde. Do you need better recommendation?

There are many ways of wearing braids. Our favourite is an elegant yet soft and romantic crown. A bit undone like it was made without any effort, exactly as at Valentino and Mulberry Spring/Summer 2012 shows.

In Chinese culture braid has been a symbol of pride and courrage mostly worn by men. In Europe it is connected to youth and innocence. In many European societies it was in common to cut a long braid of a girl when she got married. Its innocent and young look is what we find the most desireable about it, especially when we imagine romantic heroines from old tales. Oh well, it's time to practice!

We simply adore Erin Fetherston's platinum blonde braid on her signature bangs. The picture comes from a backstage of Spring/Summer 2011 show (unfortunately Erin cut her beautiful long hair into a bob
but we still love her!)

Hair stylists obviously fell in love with romantic braids for Summer. We had traditional crowns at Moschino show, girlie and soft braids around head at Mulberry and Valentino. Even Vivienne Westwood presented a more crazy way of wearing them at her Gold Label show and at John Galliano's models had ones looking like wheat flowers.
