HAPPY NEW CHINESE YEAR

CHEN MAN A 31 years old Chinese photographer knows how to capture the beauty of tradition mixed with modern artistic vision and fashion. For the celebration of Chinese New Year (in February) i-D magazine invited Chen Man to produce 12 covers for its pre-spring "Whatever the weather" issue. A mother of two is known for having a strong vision (never interrupted) and for casting models that nobody would dare to work with. She's not scared of unconventional beauty and that's what made her earn a great portfolio with major titles such as Vogue China, Harper's Bazaar, Elle and brands Dolce & Gabbana, Nike, Adidas.

Chen Man was born in Beijing in 1980. She was the only child as that was the Chinese policy at that time. It was also the time of Cultural Revolution in China. Since the age of 2 she loved to paint and it was natural for her to enter the Central Academy of Fine Arts many years later. She studied painting, architecture, graphic and set design. In the meantime she got inspired by post-production techniques and photography.
She admits to believe in two kinds of beauty: natural and the technological. She's an absolute technology geek who appreciates the design of electronic gadgets, such as iPad, mobile phone, etc. She admires Nick Knight (no surprise here!) and American artist Matthew Barney but, as she admits, she  has devoted her work mainly to China.
